How to select the right Bruno Ergonomic Chair and Björn
Ergonomic Saddle Stool, Relax and Swing arm-style arm supports and accessories.
Musculoskeletal disorders can be debilitating for anyone who works all day keeping
the body in much the same position. A common problem with sitting in a conventional
chair is that the lumbar discs are continually stressed (and, over time, can become
damaged) because the natural S-curve of the spine is not maintained.
Bruno Ergonomic Office Chair, Series 300
This elegant Scandinavian-designed chair - with a seat and back that fluidly adjust
and move to follow changing body positions - supplies the back support you need
for your overall good health and well-being.
Bruno is available to try for 30 days on the "Rent a chair" program.

Björn Ergonomic Saddle Stool, Series 400/600
Our Björn saddle stool is specially designed so that you automatically
sit in a neutral posture - as you do when standing - to maintain the spine's ideal
S-curve without the use of a backrest. With the spine in the neutral position,
forward leaning takes place at the hip while keeping your upright posture. Sit on
a Björn before ruling it out as "too avant-garde."
Rent one for a 30-day trial and get used to the comfort. Call 1-888-245-1367 for
information on our "Rent a chair" program. We sell a lot of Björn
saddle stools that way.
Note: On a Björn saddle stool you sit approximately 6" to 8" higher than on
a conventional chair, perfect for work done at work-bench/counter height 36"-43".
Björn Series 400
Designed and sized to best fit a female user.
Björn Series 600
Designed with a V-shaped cut-out at the front end of the saddle seat and a grooved
center, which work together to minimize pressure on the prostate gland and perineum
area.

If a comfortable monitor-viewing seat height for work at a computer calls for a
tall chair with footrest, try instead The Björn Saddle Stool with RX66 office-style
armrests. (Some Björn users have found the need for armrests, which allow them
to change position regularly by leaning left or right on the armrests, shifting
weight back and forth.)

Practitioners in dentistry and specialty medical fields who work daylong in a sitting
position will need a chair with superb back/lumbar support to help minimize lower
back problems.
One safe choice is the
Bruno Ergonomic Office Chair, Series 300.
The alternative is the
Björn Ergonomic Saddle Stool, Series 400/600,
that automatically seats you in a correct posture and positions you nearer to the
patient so you work with arms closer to the torso, reducing strain on back, shoulder
and neck muscles.
Select the Björn Saddle Stool if work space is tight.

Hygienists
Most hygienists find that the
Björn Saddle Stool without any arm support
works just fine. Series 400 fits female users. Series 600 fits male users.
If there is any discomfort in the shoulders after using a
Björn Saddle
Stool for a while, try a Relax-style arm support, RX2D Standard or RX3D Multi-motion.
Assistants
The
Björn Saddle Stool, Series 400/600, permit the assistant to come closer to the patient. Supported with feet firmly on the floor enables an assistant to easily move and find a position for best possible work access and assist to the doctor. Feet on the floor – not on a foot-ring – eliminates the need for a torso-support. Exceptions: see B and C below.
When working with arms closer to the torso and "hanging" more relaxed from the shoulders,
there is less strain on muscles in the shoulder and neck area, and therefore less
need for an arm support. (On a conventional assistant stool the user often leans
on the "belly-bar" in a way that leads to harmful contraction and stretching of
shoulder and neck muscles.)
A. Doctor on conventional chair, (e.g. Bruno Series 300) - assistant
on saddle stool
Using the
Björn Saddle Stool, even a short assistant will be positioned
higher than the doctor. With the benefit of both feet on the floor - perfectly stable
- it is easy for the assistant to obtain the most favorable work position and move
to pick up tools and supplies for the doctor. Select Mod. 430/630
Standard
for user 5' -5'10'. Mod. 435/635
Tall for user 5'6" to 6' plus.
B. Doctor and assistant of similar height
- both on saddle stools
Positioned closer to the work, the assistant's chair moves into a much less stressful
position compared to sitting on a conventional assistant chair with a torso support
and feet on a foot-ring. (Doctor and assistant should take advantage of sitting
with legs interlocked, allowing the assistant to obtain the best possible, comfortable
position.) Select Mod. 435/635
Tall for users over 5'8". Add foot-ring
(FR3) and torso/arm support (SA24), and this version will also accommodate short
assistants. (A tall assistant can opt out of using the foot-ring.)
C. Tall doctor - short assistant
(5'- 5'4") - both on saddle
stools
To assist a doctor who is 6' and over, select Model 435/635
Tall) with
foot-ring (FR3) and torso/arm support (SA24). The foot-ring is set low to maintain
a 45-degree angle of the assistant's legs. An alternative is for the assistant to
alternately stand/sit. With the saddle seat adjusted to tilt forward and the seat
height set at just slightly below standing, it takes the weight off the assistant's
legs and feet.
D. Arm Supports
With feet firmly on the floor and much improved positioning, there is less need
for an arm support. If an arm support is selected, choose the short 12" Swing Arm
support, SA12L/R (Left or right-side mount).
For sitting with feet on a foot-ring, select SA24L/R, 24" long torso/arm support.
For retrofitting, order Relax-style arm supports: RX2D
Standard or RX3D
Multi-motion, plus bracket RX4B for
Björn saddle stools.
(Swing-arm-style arm supports should be ordered at the same time the saddle stool
is ordered since retrofitting requires disassembly and the use of special tools.)
